Jigar Muradabadi
My heart he did
Steal – last night
The Charming One
Of walk so scintillating
His effulgent countenance
As bright as the moon
Radiant as the moon
His effulgent forehead.
His sprouting beard
Like blossoms in
The garden- his
Lips red like wine
In the Cup.
His eyes a delicious
Draught- his physique
Excels the heavenly tree!
Cheeks beautiful
Lovely face
Superb hair
What superb hair
The face – what
A radiant morn
The hair – a
Superb night!
The lightening
Of the eyes slain/slay/ed
A multitude
The net of hair
Ensnared hearts
Of a multitude
Eyebrows like daggers/swords
Eyelashes like darts
Bent on slaying!
In ecstasy – dancing
Like a Peacock
Or moving as daintily
As a gazelle.
Henna weighs his
Hands to tremble
Ecstasy of wine- makes
His legs unsteady
The quivering of body
Sets the Two Worlds
Trembling –
The disorder of
His locks -
Causes the discipline
Of the Universe
To flounder adrift!
I inquired
What do you seek?
He replied
My heart and soul!
What do you
Desire I inquired
My slave/bondsman
He replied!
